I am a long time user of AutoCAD and bought this book to refresh my knowledge on 3d modelling, whilst it has a good section on all the basics of surface and solid modelling it completely leaves out a section on 3d visualization: for example setting up and manipulating cameras, rendering visuals and walk throughs.
The book has a lot of technical detail, in my view too detailed for a beginner or day-to-day user. It's about pages thick, everything is black and white, the print is quite small and I did not find the index as useful as it should be.
If you know nothing about AutoCAD you will find this book somewhat daunting. Nevertheless I shall keep it as a reference book. Report abuse. Book seems fine. It is a good book. Starting from page 1, and proceeding in a sequential manner is definitely a thorough approach, but it makes the learning process slow.
A new learner would like to learn a few things quickly. This would encourage him to explore new things and learn further. For this, an additional tutorial type chapter is desirable. It should give step-by-step instruction, without going into the depth of a command, to make a simple mechanical part 2D: Front, Side and Top views, and 3D modelling of the same part.
